A prominent philanthropist, Kathy Levinson has a long track record of supporting human rights. Among her many charitable activities, Kathy Levinson has contributed to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Stanford Pride, and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The ACLU is dedicated to defending the civil rights laid out in the U.S. Constitution, and it enjoys significant support among Americans, with more than 1.5 million members.
But the ACLU started out as just a small group of people who were shocked at the loss of civil liberties caused by the fear of the rise of Communism after World War I. It gained momentum through numerous high-profile court cases over the years, including the 1925 Scopes Trial, 1954’s Brown v. Board of Education, and Roe v. Wade in 1973. And In 1978, the ACLU advocated for a Nazi group's right to march through a Chicago suburb under the First Amendment.
